The decision about the future work path is not always an easy one for students. We study various subjects and acquire knowledge from different areas to find our strongest suit. For me, Digital Marketing was the area that I decided to explore in more detail outside the theoretical boundaries of the subject.

Therefore, the decision to engage in the Digital Marketing course at Mindrisers Institute of Technology proved to be quite a discovery for me. Consequently, by virtue of my studies, I got an incredible opportunity to apply the theoretical knowledge and skill set acquired in the process of training. Thus, now, having gained the necessary one-month internship experience, I can confidently state that the most pleasant result of my studies was the opportunity to put the knowledge and skills obtained to practical use in the workplace.

Why I Choose to Learn Digital Marketing

Being a BIM student, I have always had an interest in both technology and business. However, I was still quite uncertain about which of the two fields I would like to specialize in as a career. Throughout my studies, I have encountered various topics related to technology, management, and business interrelation. In this regard, the Digital Marketing course attracted my attention, as it offered the possibility to combine my interests in technology with creativity and management.

Prior to taking the course, my perception of the field of Digital Marketing was quite limited to social media marketing and business promotion. To me, Digital Marketing meant creating advertisements on various online platforms and providing customers with a product that they searched for. Even though I understood the main idea and importance of social media for modern business, I had no idea about the subtle details of what businesses actually do to promote their products online. Thus, I had many questions concerning the matter of what kind of activities businesses do on social media, what they aim to achieve, how they do it, and who they target by doing this.

As I started learning more about the field of Digital Marketing, I have become especially fascinated with the possibility to see and analyze the effects that businesses’ activities have on their customers’ decisions. I have wondered how much Google search, social media, and websites influence our daily lives, how people are being motivated to visit a business’ official website, and how these activities then affect the customers’ experience with the products. For these reasons, I was highly interested to learn more about such aspects as SEO, content marketing, social media, websites, email marketing, analytics, and online advertising.

The last but not the least reason for choosing this course is my belief that taking this class was a great opportunity for me to learn some practical skills. Being a student, I have always wanted to acquire knowledge that would also benefit me in my future work. The course of Digital Marketing is an example of such a useful experience, as it arms students with practical skills in social media, marketing, and analytical activities. Moreover, Digital Marketing seemed like a great possibility to invest in my future self, as it is a skillset applicable in almost every business, regardless of our future career paths. Therefore, choosing this course, I have aimed to both satisfy my curiosity about the area of marketing and to learn useful practical skills for my future career.

Learning Was More Than Just Theory

One of the things that I enjoyed most about this course was that learning was more than just theory. I got to learn the practical application of the concepts that we were taught in the course. For instance, learning about SEO was more than just learning definitions and concepts. We were able to look at keywords, content, website optimization and internal linking to be able to understand how SEO works. Learning about websites was also more than just theory as we were able to work with WordPress to learn how pages, menus, content and links work.

This experience taught me an important lesson that you understand a skill much better when you get the opportunity to use it.

From Learning to Internship

After finishing the course, my internship became the next stage of my educational path. It was interesting for me to compare two different but closely connected experiences. While in the course, my main concerns were the theoretical ones, like “what is that?”, in the internship, I began to ask more practical questions, such as “how to do this?” It might seem a minor difference, but it has profoundly impacted my perception of learning. As an intern, I started to perform a variety of Digital Marketing tasks, including some content-related activities, SEO, competitor analysis, website-related tasks, and social media.

Therefore, I have an opportunity “to practice theory,” which has become my significant advantage over those who only study Digital Marketing.

What My First Month Has Taught Me

I have received several exciting revelations from my first month of being a Digital Marketing intern. These are the things that could not have been learned from books, journals, or even lectures.

SEO – Search Engine Optimization Is Not Only About Search Engines

I thought that SEO mostly consisted of working with keywords and search engines. Yet, when I began to work on tasks related to SEO, I discovered that there is much more to it than I expected. Apart from keywords and search engines, one must pay enough attention to such details as the content’s meaning, headings, meta tags, links, the website’s architecture, and many others.  To put it another way, to get your content ranked, you need to create something that would be appealing and beneficial to the audience.

Good Content Should Be Created with End Users in Mind

I have also realized that to successfully create digital content, one must adopt the end-users’ mindset. It means that a piece of content should not be created to sound good, instead it should be created to provide answers to the precise questions that people are looking to find. Working on my blogs, I started to ask myself different questions, including: what do I want to tell my readers? What do I want them to know? How do I present the information so that it is easy to read and understood? What if someone reads my blog and does not get the necessary answers? These are all questions that should be considered when crafting good digital content.

Competitor Analysis Made Me Think Differently

Another valuable aspect of my internship is competitor analysis. It helped me understand that Digital Marketing is not a solo performance.

A company should know what other firms in the same field are doing, how they communicate with the clients, what content they use, and what they lack. This way, the company can identify its competitors’ strengths and weaknesses and utilize this information to its advantage. This experience also taught me to research and analyze information.

Practical Learning Builds Confidence

Perhaps the most significant positive change I have noticed in myself is my confidence. When learning something new for the first time, one often wonders if they will be able to perform the task properly. Practical experience helps one realize whether they can do it.  You try, you make mistakes, you learn from your mistakes, you improve, and you try again.

This process has made me more confident in my ability to perform Digital Marketing tasks and has also helped me identify my weaknesses. I may not be an expert at Digital Marketing after a month of practice, but I have a better understanding of what working in this sphere entails.

Why I Believe Practical Education Matters

As a student, I have come to realize that education, aimed at providing knowledge, is of great importance when it is applied to practice. Students need theoretical experience, but they also need practical ones to fully appreciate their studies. Projects, practical assignments, tools, feedback, and exposure to the professional world are the five crucial ways by which students can acquire practical experience and be prepared for the professional world.

The course prepared me for practical experience, whereas the internship is giving me an opportunity to apply the knowledge I have gained during the course.

My Journey Is Just Beginning

One month of internship experience has taught me everything about Digital Marketing and I am acuring knowledge in everystep. I want to improve my SEO knowledge, become better at content creation, understand analytics more deeply, explore digital marketing tools, and gain more experience working on real projects. But I now have something I did not have when I started: a clearer direction.

I started my journey as a student who wanted to learn Digital Marketing. Today, I am gradually becoming a student who understands how those skills can be applied in the professional world. And that, for me, is the real value of practical learning.
